Skilled Family Lawyer Serving Wisconsin for 46 Years

Attorney Linda S. Balisle is one of two members of the Wisconsin representative to the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, who handle the most complex divorce matters nationally and often, internationally. She now concentrates her practice as a consultant for matters in both the trial and appellate courts, as well as for marital property agreements (prenuptial and post nuptial agreements) and for the marriage and divorce issues which impact trust and business agreements. Her trial and appellate experience with high net worth clients, complex jurisdictional and financial issues, and legal issues impacting LGBTQ and non-traditional families provide a solid foundation for her current services. She has been committed to alternative dispute resolution her entire career and has mediated family law cases for more than 40 years. She is certified as an Arbitrator by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Work with Appellate Cases

Of the many appellate cases she has argued, 17 were published in the case reports, including In re the Marriage of LaRocque, 139 Wis. 2d 778 (1987); In re: Custody of H.S.H-K., 193 Wis. 1d 649 (1995); In Interest of A.E.H., 161 Wis. 2d 277 (1991); Richardson v. Richardson, 139 Wis. 2d 778 (1987); Schwantes v. Schwantes, 121 Wis. 2d 607 (Ct. App. 1984), and Roberto v. Brown, 107 Wis. 2d 17 (1982).

Almost twenty years before the United Statement Supreme Court affirmed the right to marry for same sex couples, attorney Balisle represented the child in In re: Custody of H.S.K., 193 Wis. 1d 649 (1995), where the Wisconsin Supreme Court established a working standard allowing for visitation by the non-biological parent of a child raised by a same sex couple.

In that case, the court indicated it would consider co-parenting agreements between same-sex couples in the future. The court’s opinion was adopted and relied on by courts in other states around the United States who were struggling to find a legal basis on which to protect the families appearing before them.

Her decades-long commitment and knowledge in creating and supporting legal protections for LGBTQ families gives us a unique understanding of the issues which remain.
